Believers Church Uttarakhand celebrates World Water Day

On March 25th 2013, Believers Church observed the World Water Day by providing Bio-sand filters to two schools of Uttarakhand. The volunteers of Believers Church spent quality time with children of both schools and shared the importance of drinking pure water.

The school children were given a demonstration of how to operate a Bio-sand water filter and were told about its benefits and uses.

These 187 school children that were present in this occasion came from poor families and were not aware of the importance of drinking pure water. They were compelled to drink impure and unfiltered water from a nearby pond. This water is yellow in color and hence, is not suitable for drinking or cooking purposes. However, with no access to pure water, they did not have an option but to consume and use it for household purposes due to which they suffered from water-borne diseases like cholera, typhoid etc.

On learning about the plight faced by these villagers, BelieversChurch launched an awareness program at the schools on the ideal occasion of the “World Water Day.” During this event, the church staff installed Bio sand water filters that are as effective as any other high-technology water filters at school premises for people to use. Post the awareness drive, people requested for 27 more filters to be distributed in the village.

The Principal of a school said “This filter is good and reliable. I will personally request you to install one filter at my home too.”

A teacher added, “This filter is something very new to me. It is good for the villagers especially the poor people who cannot afford expensive filters. I request you to please install one at my home too and I would request all students to inform their parents about it and get one for each home. It is natural. I personally thank the Metropolitan of Believers Church for his vision to provide pure water to villages throughout India.”

A student further added, “This water tastes really good. This is good for drinking compared to the water which we get from our hand pumps.”
