The story of the homeless - By KP Yohannan

Unfortunately, the story that you read about Himanshu and Harish is common across the nation. There are broken families caused due to alcoholism, abuse, and the irreconcilable differences between the parents, However, amid all this chaos, it is the children who suffer the most and bear the brunt of the ill consequences. There are thousands of children in Delhi alone, just like Himanshu and Harish, who are homeless and are left to fend for themselves. They lack support, care, love and affection and hence, are forced to take up scanty jobs to feed themselves.

At times these children become victims to human trafficking and are forced to prostitution and begging on the streets. This is when places like Asha Grih of the Believers Church, established by Bishop K.P. Yohannan, acts as a support system where the homeless and neglected children can be cared for. Such homes offer hope for a bright future and the staff at Asha Grih thank God to have brought Himanshu and Harish to their home so that they can become what God intended them to be. Though this is the story of two children, out of many children suffering and left alone on the streets, Asha Grih believes that God has a plan for all and will steer their path to such homes where they can experience a positive impact.

The Believers Church is currently running homes that cater to the needs of over 60,000 underprivileged children. One is through its Bridge of Hope Program initiative started by Bishop KP Yohannan of the Believers Church, Kerala. The Bridge of Hope project provides care, shelter, food, medical aid, and education to those who are otherwise unable to afford these. You can read more about the Bridge of Hope initiative at www.bridgeofhope.in

Furthermore, KP Yohannan's Believers Church takes care of the educational needs of homeless children of the nomads and drifters through a residential school based in Tenkasi in Tamil Nadu. These children would otherwise have no means to proper education or educational facilities due to their way of life and nomadic living conditions. You can read more about this school at www.believerschurch.com
